Experience both the peace and natural beauty of the Finnish Lake District, as well as market towns of the region, and the capital Helsinki itself.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO HELSINKI
Collect your car at Helsinki airport, before driving to the city centre for an overnight stay.
DAY 2: EAST TO IMATRA
Heading east towards Russia, take a stop to visit Porvoo, Finland's 2nd oldest town.
Stroll through the medieval old quarter, along old cobbled streets of historic painted wooden houses, cafes, and antique stores. The town is famous for its ochre-painted shore houses along the riverside. The 13th century cathedral, although damaged by fire in 2006, is still the town's major historic landmark.
Arrive to Imatra in time to see the magnificent Imatrankoski Rapid show at 18.00 (every day during period 25.6 –
26.8.2012).

DAY 3: LAKE-SIDE DRIVE
Lots to experience today, starting with the Punkharju Ridge, ofering magnificent lake vistas on both sides of your car. Vist the world's oldest wooden church at Kerimäki, aswell as stopping in Savonlinna, and its medieval castle.
DAY 4: KOLI NATIONAL PARK
Moving north now, visit the Monastery at Valamo before reaching Koli, home of some of Finland's most fantastic scenery.
DAY 5: FREE DAY
Free day to explore the region, perhaps taking a hike and enjoy some fabulous views.
DAY 6: TO KUOPIO
Moving west, visit the traditional Karelian House, Bomba, in Nurmes, before reaching Kuopio, with its colourful market.
DAY 7: KUOPIO TO TAMPERE
Tampere is today's final destination. The largest inland city in the Nordic region was once an industrial power-house but has been lovingly and creatively restored. En-route stop at Jyväskylä, with several examples of Alvar Allto's architecture.
DAY 8: BACK TO HELSINKI
2 hours south of Tampere is Helsinki again. On the way, stop at Hämeenlinna, birthplace of composer Sibelius.
DAY 9: DEPARTURE
Depart for flights home, dropping off the car at the airport.
The map centres on Savonlinna, a small market town beautifully situated, surrounded on all sides by water. Famous for its annual opera festival in July, Savonlinna is a great place to visit any time in the Finnish summer.
The car rental is based on a Toyota Corolla or similar, with unlimited mileage, insurance, with pick-up and drop off at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Additional drivers and satellite navigation systems can be added for a supplement.
